The number 57 is a reference to 57 Great Jones Street in New York City, where Basquiat created some of his best-known works. The soft graphite (equivalent to 4B) is perfect for drawing.

Jean-Michel Basquiat is one of the best known artists of his generation and is considered one of the most important artists of the 20th century. His works are bold and raw and, through a bold sense of colour and composition, he maintains a fine balance between seemingly contradictory forces such as control and spontaneity, menace and wit, urban imagery and primitivism.

The pencils have a Japanese graphite core, encased in Californian frankincense cedar wood, which protects the lead and provides the perfect hardness for easy, even sharpening. The back ferrule includes a clip that holds the eraser. The design of the ferrule prevents the pencils from rolling on the table, making them easy to use. The eraser is removable with pressure (refills available) and does not smudge when erasing. The pencils have an engraved lacquer finish on the outside. On the side of the pencil you can see the Blackwing logo printed in gold.
